Why Every Business Website Needs Uptime Monitoring

Websites go down for boring reasons: an expired SSL certificate, a full disk, a plugin update, a hosting outage. The damage depends on how long nobody notices.

What a good monitor checks

  • That the homepage answers with a normal status code
  • How long the server takes to respond
  • When the SSL certificate expires, with a warning weeks ahead
  • That an outage is confirmed by more than one failed check before you are alerted

Monitoring every five minutes means you hear about a problem in minutes, not days, and the uptime history shows your host whether they are meeting their promises.
